In the planning process of a GP program, we think outside the box in determining strategies to better communicate information to our viewers. Our presentation of multiple trainers in one program is a practice with which we have had great success. The multiple trainer concept gives the viewer a variety of points of view. The diversity of insight and advice from these professionals, each with a lifetime of experience, greatly increases the odds of good information being understood and retained by the viewer.

Our videos are designed to present information in a way that is accessible and easy to apply to your own riding. For example, production techniques such as slow motion, freeze frame, and graphic illustration are used to capture and break down the subtle cues needed to execute a reining horse's turnaround or to illustrate the body language communication between horse and rider in a lead departure. Dissecting the physical movement in this way allows the viewer to think about the actions and events involved in the process and understand their influence in the final outcome. Our videos combine the creative use of slow motion, split screen, computer-generated graphics and text, all of which significantly enhance the educational content and value of Greenridge Production programs.

With the release of our latest program, "How to Train and Maintain Your Own Reining Horse," Greenridge Productions is proud to announce that we are the first company in the world to employ the use of closed captioning in a horse training instructional video. Closed captioning will be a standard feature in all of our future programs.

I was born in Wickemburg, Arizona. My parents were ranchers in Scott Valley, California, but wintered in Arizona as it was a break from the cold northern California winters. A former racehorse trainer, as well as a rancher, my father was an avid team roper.

When I was three years old my parents moved away from the ranch and stepped away from a lifelong association with horses. I didn't associate with horses again until 1995. Life comes full circle, however, and like my father , as an adult I got hooked on the sport of team roping. As with every sport in which I have been involved, I really wanted to excel and threw myself into roping. A year later, as a novice and, quite frankly, humbled, team roper, I needed help with my roping and riding. I went to cow horse trainer Tommy Sondgroth of San Juan Batista, California, who put my horse career on a new path. I spent the better part of a year working with him, and learned that being a good horseman is as much an art as a sport. One time I asked him how he got his horses stopping so pretty, and I'll never forget his response: "a little of this and a little of that." His answer stuck with me because I really wanted to know what "a little of this and a little of that" really meant. I knew that I wanted, eventually, to be able to make and fix my own horses, not just be dependent on a professional to correct my mistakes.

During this time, I had explored what video material was available about training rope horses, and was not impressed. For many years I had used video documentation in my construction business, and this familiarity with the medium led me to team up with Tommy and make our own training video of how he made a rope horse. Our final product, "How to Train Your Own Rope Horse," was quite a successful first attempt, and has become something of a team roper's cult classic. I haven't met a roper who hasn't watched it.

Two years later our second production was "Horsemanship and Horse Training for Team Ropers". This program focuses on good riding skills as the basis of good roping skills.

The next GP program moved into the realm of the performance horse with "Les Vogt's Five Easy Pieces". As a 15 time World Champion cow horse and reining trainer, Les is one of the industries great communicators and does an excellent job explaining the theory and function of training body control into your horse.

Our latest production is "How to Train and Maintain Your Own Reining Horse". This two-tape series features nine successful reining and cow horse trainers each discussing an aspect of horsemanship and horse training as related to the maneuvers found in a reining pattern. This program will actually appeal to any rider in any discipline that appreciates a well-trained horse. This is also the world's first closed-captioned horse training video program.
